In the last week, there have been reports of two high profile incidents involving people’s personal information becoming available online. Incidents of this nature highlight the importance of managing and protecting the security of personal information, particularly in the online environment.

36th International Conference of Data Protection and Privacy Commissioners

The 36th International conference of data protection and privacy Commissioners is currently underway in Mauritius. Running from 13 to 16 October, this annual conference hosts speakers from privacy and data protection authorities around the world. The theme for the 2014 conference is ‘A World Order for Data Protection’.

Release of updated FOI Guidelines

The Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) has released an updated version of thirteen Parts of the Freedom of information guidelines (FOI guidelines) issued by the Australian Information Commissioner under s 93A of the Freedom of Information Act 1982 (FOI Act). The FOI Act requires Australian Government ministers and agencies to have regard to these guidelines when performing a function or exercising a power under the FOI Act.
