OAIC IPS update 15 May 2014

The Reserve Bank of Australia has made an application, under section 73 of the Privacy Act 1988, for a public interest determination that it is taken not to breach section 15 of that Act in relation to certain acts and practices involved in the overseas disclosure of an individual’s personal information in the processing of an international money transfer.

A temporary public interest determination has been made by the Privacy Commissioner and registered on the Federal Register of Legislative Instruments and in the Register of determinations kept by the OAIC under section 80E of the Privacy Act.

The OAIC will now consider the main PID application further, including by conducting public consultations.
