Appendix 7 — Committee members

Information Advisory Committee

The Information Advisory Committee (IAC) is established by the Australian Information Commissioner Act 2010 (s 27). Members (other than the Chair) are appointed by the Minister. The inaugural IAC members were appointed in September 2011.

The IAC assists and advises the Australian Information Commissioner in matters relating to the performance of the Information Commissioner functions. The IAC advises the Information Commissioner; it does not advise the Australian Government directly. The minutes of IAC meetings are published on the OAIC website.

As at 30 June 2012 the members were:

Note: Dr Ian Reinecke AM, an inaugural IAC member, resigned in June 2012.

Privacy Advisory Committee

The Privacy Advisory Committee (PAC) is established by the Privacy Act 1988 (s 82). Members (other than the Chair) are appointed by the Governor-General.

The PAC provides strategic advice on privacy to the Australian Information Commissioner. The minutes of PAC meetings are published on the OAIC website.

As at 30 June 2012 the members were:

  • Leon Carter, National Secretary, Financial Sector Union (appointed December 2011)
  • Professor Michael Kidd AM, Faculty of Health Sciences, Flinders University (appointed July 2010)
  • Dr Christine O’Keefe, Research Leader for Business and Services Analytics in CSIRO Mathematics, Informatics and Statistics (appointed March 2009; re-appointed December 2011)
  • Associate Professor Moira Paterson, Faculty of Law, Monash University (appointed December 2011)
  • Barbara Robertson, Chief Privacy Officer and Head of Governance, National Australia Bank (appointed July 2010).
