OAIC warns of telemarketing scam

The Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) has been advised by a member of the public that they have been contacted by a person claiming to be from the OAIC and asked a series of questions about their computer system.

The OAIC advises that this call was not made by the OAIC, and is likely to be a telemarketing scam. The OAIC reminds individuals to remain vigilant about telemarketing calls offering online technical support or computer virus products. While there are some legitimate companies that may make these type of calls, many more of these are scams.
