End of year shutdown

The Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) will be shut-down from close of business Tuesday 24 December 2013, reopening Thursday 2 January, 2014.

During this time the Enquiries line will not be available.

Privacy tips for the holiday season

At this busy time of year it is easy to forget about protecting your privacy, but it’s just as important as ever!

Consultation on missing persons rules

The OAIC is seeking comment on draft Privacy (Persons Reported as Missing) Rules. These rules relate to the Australian Privacy Principles which will come into force on 12 March 2014. Comments on the draft rules are due by 31 January 2014.

The OAIC has prepared a consultation paper including some stimulus questions and a draft set of rules.

EDR scheme applications

The OAIC is starting to receive applications for recognition under the Privacy Act from external dispute resolution (EDR) schemes. The first application, from the Telecommunications Industry Ombudsman, has now been published on a new webpage that will eventually hold information about all applications and about those EDR schemes that are recognised.

eHealth Annual Report tabled

The Annual Report of the Information Commissioner's eHealth activities 2012–13 was tabled in Parliament on Tuesday 3 December 2013. The report includes information about the OAIC’s compliance, enforcement, advice, liaison activities under both the Personally Controlled Electronic Health Records Act 2012 and the Healthcare Identifiers Act 2010.
