Easy ways to protect your privacy this Safer Internet Day

This Safer Internet Day, take charge of how much personal information you share and make public with these quick privacy tips for using Snapchat, Instagram and Facebook.

Control who can view your Snapchat story

  1. Tap the Snapchat icon at the top of your camera screen
  2. Tap the settings in the top right hand corner
  3. Select 'Who can…' and then 'View my story'
  4. Decide if you’d like just 'My friends' or 'Everyone' to view your story
  5. You can block specific friends from viewing your story by selecting ‘Custom’
  6. Tap the back button to save your selection.

Decreasing those random likes on Instagram

To set your posts to private on Instagram simply:

  1. Go to your profile
  2. Select the settings icon at the top right of your profile screen
    On an iOS device, the settings icon looks like a gear icon-gear
    On an Android device, the settings icon appears as three vertical dots icon-dots-vertical
  3. Turn on the ‘Private account’ setting.

Check how private your Facebook profile really is

  1. On your computer, go to your profile and select icon-dots-horizontal at the bottom right of your cover image
  2. Select ‘View as’
  3. Choose if you would like to see what the public can view on your profile OR check out what a certain friend can see.
