OAIC Annual Report 2015–16

We have released our annual report for 2015–16, which documents a pivotal and highly successful year for the OAIC.

‘This year’s annual report highlights the important public role the OAIC plays as the national regulator of both FOI and personal information law — and I am pleased to be able to report on a very positive year,’ said Australian Information and Privacy Commissioner, Timothy Pilgrim.

‘Ongoing developments in technological, social, commercial and government service delivery environments continue to make our roles and functions more relevant to Australian communities than ever before, and this is reflected in our achievements.

‘In 2015–16 we handled over 19,000 privacy enquiries, an 18% increase from the previous year. We also received over 2,100 formal privacy complaints and achieved a rate of 97% complaint resolution within 12 months of receipt.

‘At the same time, we have continued to uphold the rights of Australian communities to access information held by government. We received 510 applications for an Information Commissioner review, which is up 36% from the previous year.’
