Election of Australian Information Commissioner and Privacy Commissioner to the ICDPPC Executive Committee

30 October 2018

Australian Information Commissioner and Privacy Commissioner, Angelene Falk, was elected to the Executive Committee of the International Conference of Data Protection and Privacy Commissioners (ICDPPC) in Brussels last week.

The ICDPPC is the leading global forum of data protection and privacy authorities with more than 120 members across all continents. It works throughout the year on global data protection policy issues, adopts resolutions and statements addressed to governments and policymakers, and arranges the annual conference.

On her appointment the Commissioner said:

In a time of rapidly evolving technology and vastly increased cross-border information flows, the need for global cooperation across the data protection and privacy landscape has never been more important.

The ICDPPC brings together more than 120 authorities from around the world to promote international collaboration in addressing these regulatory challenges.

It is an important conduit for information and insights on cross-border policy and enforcement issues, and supports best practice by allowing strategy and experience to be shared.

I look forward to working alongside Chair, UK Information Commissioner Elizabeth Denham, and other members of the Executive Committee to drive these objectives.

The Office of the Australian Information Commissioner’s participation continues Australia’s history of leadership on privacy issues, including engagement with overseas counterparts through the Asia Pacific Privacy Authority, the Global Privacy Enforcement Network and the Common Thread Network, and its active role in cross-border privacy investigations.

The theme of this year’s ICDPP Conference was “Debating Ethics: Dignity and Respect in Data Driven Life”. More information on the Conference can be found here:
