I’d like to know more about the role of the OAIC
To find out more about the functions of the OAIC, you may find it useful to read our About us page, read or subscribe to our eNews alerts, or browse through the Media and speeches section, which includes media releases, speeches and public statements.
I’m an individual, looking for help making a privacy complaint, or wanting to know my rights
Most of what you’re looking for will be in the Individuals section, which has all of our information about making a privacy complaint, frequently asked questions (FAQs), and fact sheets. You can also contact our Enquiries line if you need to ask a question, or need help lodging a complaint.
I’d like to know more about Privacy law
Information about the Privacy Act 1988 (Privacy Act) and the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs), and how the Privacy Act interacts with systems like credit reporting, can be found in the Privacy law section. This section also holds decisions, and assessment and investigation reports.
The Privacy law section is also where you’ll find information about legislation that the OAIC has privacy oversight responsibilities for, like telecommunications, data matching and the private health sector.
I’m from an organisation/Government agency looking for more information about our privacy responsibilities
The Agencies & organisations section of our website holds all of the resources that you’ll need, including the APPs guidelines, resources and guides, and FAQs specifically for agencies and organisations.
You should also read through the Privacy law section of our site, as it has more detailed information about the Privacy Act, the APPs, and all of the other legislation that the OAIC has responsibilities for.
I’m an individual looking for help with freedom of information (FOI)
The Freedom of information section of this site has all the information you need about your rights under the Freedom of Information Act 1982, as well as how to request a review of an FOI decision, resources about FOI, and FAQs.
If you need help submitting a review request, or you need to know more about how FOI works, you can always contact our Enquiries line.
I’m from an agency and I need to know more about our FOI obligations
The Freedom of information section of this site has all the information agencies need about their responsibilities under the FOI Act, and resources and FAQs to help meet those obligations. This section also holds the FOI guidelines, the Guide to the FOI Act, and a list of all Information Commissioner review decisions.
I’d like to know more about Information policy
You’ll find all of our information policy resources in the Information Policy section. We’ve streamlined this section to make things easier to find.
Other resources you may be looking for
If you’re looking for information about Privacy Awareness Week, the Community Attitudes to privacy survey, consultations held by the OAIC, or submissions made by the OAIC, you can find this in the Engage with us section.
If you’re interested in reading the OAIC’s speeches, media releases, statements and newsletters, or viewing any of our video resources, you’ll find them in the Media & speeches section.
