The Australian Privacy Commissioner has finalised an investigation into the personal information of Maritime Union of Australia (MUA) members being allegedly disclosed to the Glen Lazarus Team (GLT) political party.
The Commissioner is satisfied that the matter has been adequately dealt with by MUA and that no further regulatory action is warranted. The investigation found that a partial membership list extract was accidentally left behind at GLT premises by an MUA employee. In response to the incident, MUA has committed to a number of actions to ensure the protection of its membership list and its overall management of personal information. The actions include:
updating its privacy policy and ensuring people with access to member information formally acknowledge they have read and understood the policy
providing privacy training for staff and elected officials
limiting printing of hard copy membership lists.

Acting Australian Information Commissioner investigates possible privacy breach by MUA

The Acting Australian Information Commissioner has opened an investigation into an incident in which personal information about members of the Maritime Union of Australia (MUA) was allegedly disclosed by the MUA to the Glen Lazarus Team (GLT) political party.
The Office of the Australian Information Commissioner will publish a statement about the outcome of this investigation at its conclusion.
