Background
The Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) oversees compliance with the Data-Matching Program (Assistance and Tax) Guidelines 1994 (the Guidelines). These Guidelines are issued by the Information Commissioner under the Data-matching Program (Assistance and Tax) Act 1990 (the Act).
The Guidelines regulate the matching of data under that Act, and provide for the monitoring of technical standards for data matching programs and establish privacy safeguards for individuals affected by data matching outcomes.
The Guidelines will sunset on 1 October 2021, and the OAIC is currently preparing for these to be remade as Rules.
Purpose of consultation
The OAIC seeks feedback from interested stakeholders to ensure the remade Rules remain fit for purpose.
Consultation questions
To assist you in preparing comments for this consultation, we have suggested some questions to stimulate comments and reflections on the draft Rules. They are not intended to limit the issues that may be raised. You may wish to respond to some or all questions, or to raise other issues related to the draft Rules.
- Are the draft Rules clear, relevant and practical?
- Do the draft Rules help agencies understand their obligations under the Rules?
- Are there any other ways in which the draft Rules could be enhanced?
