Privacy Awareness Week 2025
Privacy - it's everyone's business
Privacy Awareness Week is an annual event to promote and raise awareness of the importance of protecting personal information.
This year, it runs from Monday 16 June to Sunday 22 June with the theme: ‘Privacy – it’s everyone’s business’. Make it yours!
Support Privacy Awareness Week
Privacy Awareness Week (PAW) is led by the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) in partnership with state and territory privacy regulators and the Asia Pacific Privacy Authorities members.
Signing your organisation up as a PAW supporter is a is a way to show your commitment to promoting good privacy practices and advancing the privacy rights of individuals. Privacy in Australia
Privacy is protected in Australia, and internationally, with a range of laws. At the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner, we mainly deal with issues that are covered by the Privacy Act 1988 – a federal law. Most Australian states and territories have equivalent legislation which covers their public sector agencies. Some state authorities and instrumentalities are bound by the Privacy Act.
Leading Australian organisations support and participate in Privacy Awareness Week. Signing up as a supporter is a great way for organisations to show their commitment to good privacy practices and the importance of protecting personal information.
If your organisation is not in a position to sign up, there are still a variety of ways you can get involved, such as by attending Privacy Awareness Week events, sharing social posts and resources, and using some of the materials we share in your workplace.
